I'm an unabashed fan of Jon Stewart, who regularly holds politicians' feet to the fire of their own inanities. But he's a city boy, and has a city boy's blind spots. For one, he evinces little interest in and less knowledge about the natural world. For another, he appears to have only a glancing familiarity with the world of science, the rules of evidence by which scientists construe the world. This leads him too often to take cheap shots that would have been worthy of Proxmire's "Golden Fleece" awards but which should be beneath him. Not only that, but they're not funny either.
